If you are an experienced technology team builder with prior experience fostering high-performance cultures, this is a unique opportunity to join a growing company at just the right time.
The journey you are joining at AutoUncle
Born as a product company and with a small team of talented developers AutoUncle has changed the game of how cars are bought and sold. We’re proud of how we have led the development of online transparency in the car market and grateful for the accelerated growth we’ve experienced the last years. Our results are a product of an ambitious human culture and a guiding principle of creating the world’s most used platform for making hassle-free deals happen.
While riding a strong momentum, we care intensively about maintaining the agility and strong development power that have led us to where we are today. Achieving this will require that we grow the size of the development team and continue to foster a culture of inclusion, openness, feedback and mastery – an environment where feedback flows with compassion and where decisions are made based on feedback from end-users, not the highest paid person in the room.
Your mission as Head of Engineering
As Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for engineering recruitment supported by our Talent Acquisition team, foster the well-being and growth of colleagues and general performance of development teams to support the product direction set by the company leadership and Product Owners. Our objective for the next year is to grow the team size from 20 to 30 members and make sure all teams run effectively as self-organising Scrum teams. Your responsibility in this role and the main drivers of this mission will be:
- Leading the growth of AutoUncle’s development department, currently organised in four teams.
- Your ability to attract top talent together with our Talent Acquisition team, and secure a smooth integration.
- Cultivating a growth culture with emphasis on feedback, learning, experimentation, openness and velocity.
You will rely on your engineering experience to coach and guide the teams, but this role doesn’t require writing software day-to-day. We expect you to take responsibility for making sure that engineering integrates well with the international AutoUncle organisation as a whole and that we have the people and processes to build products with excellence.
The role naturally has a strong people-focus and we anticipate that most of your time is spent in conversation with existing colleagues (we prioritise 1:1s very highly) or with potential new colleagues. Jonas (co-founder & COO) will be your direct manager and you will be able to work closely together with the company’s leadership team.
We expect you to work most of the time out of the head office in Aarhus and offer a relocation package if needed.
The qualities about you that we hope to see from your past experiences are:
- You enjoy growing people and have leadership experience in one or more growth/change environments
- You are an experienced technology team builder with prior experience in fostering high-performance cultures
- You are experienced working with both remote and central teams
- You have business acumen
- Don’t hesitate to reach out if you are unsure if you check all those boxes, if you are ambitious and talented we want to talk to you.
We’re having conversations on an ongoing basis. So, please share your resume and brief description of why you see yourself in this job.
We handle all interactions discreetly and will make sure that your interest in growing is not going to create conflict elsewhere.
Most people know AutoUncle for the consumer service (native apps and web) used by millions of consumers in 14 European countries. But, new colleagues tend to get very excited when they see the technological depth there is to AutoUncle’s platform (car valuations based on advanced statistics, indexing and data processing of millions of cars daily, pro dealership tools, automatic marketing platforms, automated billing and so much more).
The company is financially strong and operates like a fast growing scale-up. There is a clear company vision (driven forward with OKRs) and a healthy work culture. In combination with the company vision, we work methodically to build The Most Human Company – a place where we can be ambitious, have international impact and treat each other as always growing and oscillating human beings.
We are an extremely ambitious, energetic, and international team of +55 employees. We're in a constant vacuum of learning and developing ourselves and each other, and have offices in central Aarhus, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Cluj.
